Got iTunes?

You know someone was asking me where they could find a decent Xmas album. And it got me thinking... a lot of the xmas albums out there are really subjective... better to build your own!

And then I finally woke up and smelled the coffee... DUUUUUUUUUUUH...

Happy Christmas from Radission! Central London from 99 pounds a night!

You like England, luxury and low prices (and trust me - London ain't cheap but 99 pounds is low low low and Radission Edwardian hotels are high high high on the luxo-chain!) Here's their latest deal for you Anglophiles!

Enjoy Christmas and New Year in central London, Heathrow and Manchester from only £99. Radisson Edwardian, luxury hotels.

Free expanded breakfast, Internet and more! Some hotel links and some deals!

Ok you guys know I am a travel FREAK as well as a bargain whore... Being that I am now a grad student I've been searching around for good deals for my upcoming trips... Let's face it - life as a university employee isn't exactly rolling wheelbarrows of benjamins in... But at the same time I refuse to stay at crappy hotels... and I also REFUSE to get a home equity loan just to use the Internet or have a bite to eat at the hotel when I am on the go...

So here's a couple of my new favs from a couple of chains I like and some I have just started to like... see what you think - remember you should always check out www.tripadvisor.com for unbiased reviews of hotels by real travelers... It is an ESSENTIAL travel resource and 100% free. In fact I encourage you to post short reviews after each hotel stay - you don't get anything for it save the knowledge that someone will be that much more informed about their travel decision b/c you were kind enough to share your experiences!

Wingate Inns - FREE expanded continental breakfast

Wingate Inns - FREE self-service 24-hour business center

Wingate Inns - FREE High-Speed Internet

Howard Johnson (Note: I find that the Howard Johnson in Isla Verde in San Juan, PR is an excellent value - I took my family there 2 Christmas' ago. The rooms are very basic, but clean and they have the all-important fridge... The a/c works quite well (you definitely want a hotel with good a/c in PR) and it is a short walk across the street to a quiet beach not far from the popular yet all to crowded Isla Verde beaches by the Wyndham and Intercontinental. If you want a really good price (and a nice little pool - nothing fancy but great for a casual dip) and clean rooms with no frills go for it! If you are a high-end traveler I'd pass...

Netflix has a $9.99 plan now!

Yup - you needed an excuse to get Netflix?! Well if you have waited this long (despite spending prolly minimum 10 bucks just in taxes and fees for cable... but I digress :-p) then good for you - they now have a plan that is only $9.99 a month! You get unlimited DVDs per month with one DVD out at a time... the full plan is $17.99 with tax and you can have up to 3 out per time... Sadly they got rid of the super unlimited plan but I am a Netflix freak and I can't watch them as fast as they can ship them to me... Try it out... click the link below :-)

Netflix - Only 9.99 a month. Over 40,000 Titles. No Late Fees. Try it for Free

Sunrocket DSL

I was mentioning this to Clickboo - check out their site and hear more about how $199 a year gets you all the local and long distance phone service you'll need (plus free equipment) 100% refund guarantee and knowing that you are building the local DC/MD/VA economy! Sunrocket is based in Tysons Corner and starting to employ more and more people! (I like their statement in the Careers section - " SunRocket is located in Tysons Corner, Virginia, where the traffic is bad, but the parking is free!") Oh so true!

I'm getting their service at my house too - as soon as my block gets its act together (of course I have to be in the problem area - we have general phone problems, even with my RCN line) but DC will shape up eventually - down the block is apparently fine, so don't let that dissuade you! :-)

They also have a deal going that includes a free cordless phone with 2 handsets.

SunRocket Internet Phone Service. Just $199 per year for all-inclusive home phone service!

Perfect Coffee at a Perfect Price - Convenience & Quality meet for less than $50!

So I am a hero at work now. Not because I am plowing through the backlog of work, bureaucracy or just generally kicking ass... No I am a hero b/c of a little Dutch friend of mine... We were paying $50 bucks a month for leasing a coffee system for our office coffee. Not only was the coffee still lousy (it was even this fancy schmancy Keurig system) but since few people drink coffee it was a waste of money. So since I am the budget guy and under the gun to cut costs I dumped the leased Crapmaker errr Coffeemaker and bring a little Dutch friend to help me.

Meet Senseo - you may recall from the picture I did a post about my Senseo Coffeemaker a while back. It's amazing, it makes the best cup of coffee short of Dunkies or a professional espresso machine (tho Senseo just makes strong European coffee, not espresso) of any home gadget I've seen yet. I discovered it when I was in Amsterdam back in March. They've been out here for a while but I think are now finally catching on like in Holland and the rest of Europe. It's perfect for our little office since it brews 1 or 2 cups at a time and the coffee is fabulous. Plus it looks neat and has become a conversation piece. I'm actually surprised at how taken people are with it. But I am now a hero. I'm saving upwards of $500 a year on a lease, the coffee is 200% better and people are happy. All b/c of the little wonderpot from Holland. If you ain't Dutch you ain't.... well anyhow.

People keep asking me for a link. You can buy this guy at Target or pretty much any place that sells coffee makers... but I recommend Amazon.com. I got mine there (for $65 back in May - which was a good deal and the regular price at most stores) but they have it for $49 with free shipping AND a free bag of coffee pods (18 pods in their version - the box sold in the stores only comes with a starter pack of like 4 pods). So if you want to be a hero in your office or home try it out...

Shop Drop and Blog

Ok I've been doing it for YEARS now. I'm known around town as Mister Thrifty: Master of the Bargain. I may chase the wanderlust but I also chase the big bad bargain out there. No deal is too good for me. Whether it's miles, discounts, coupons or just insider knowledge I'm on the hunt for it. Look to this blog for neat deals I run across or neat deals I should know about! If you've got a scoop on a sale - blog it here! If you want to know what I've been seeing, hearing and (gasp) buying - check here too.

One favor to ask - if you see something (or some store) you like - click it so I can get the referral! I'm a poor university work and soon to be grad student. I need to eat and pay my light bill so a click or two in exchange for my bargainhunting obsession is worth it for a nice guy right? :-)

Happy Shopping people!
